Saw Oceans 8 this week and was surprised at the big role 3D printing and scanning played in the plot.  No plot spoilers here that you won’t see in the previews and this isn’t a movie review other than to say it was good, but not as good as the original Ocean’s 11 in my opinion.  The movie is about a heist of course and in this case a 3D printed copy of a diamond necklace finds its way into the plot.  Here’s a great article about whether the plot holds up technically, but Lockheed did file a patent for printing synthetic diamonds a couple years ago.  It’s a great summer popcorn flick, so go have some fun and check it out!
